Bay Bush Action

On Friday we had some people come over to  our school from Bay Bush Action. Their names are Brad
and Stella, they told us what pest do to our Endemic and Native birds.
I really enjoyed holding stuffed dead  the possum.
Brad and Stella gave the school ten rat traps and Te Ngahere

(the class) got to put them on the OUTSIDE of the school fence, and now Paihia school will be the
first school in New Zealand to be rat free.

Te wiki of te Reo maori

This week was Te wiki o Te Reo Māori. All  of the leaders that got picked were from Te Ngahere. Mrs Pou was counting on us because she was the one who  picked us. The whole school was part of it, We had 10 rotations. We had to do 3 rotations a day for 3 days. I had 6 people  in my group. We all will missed out on one of the rotations. We missed out on Whea Ronnie’s one. I hope we have a Science rotation one week.

Tech

From the start of term 3, Te Ngahere has been learning to make useful things with pallets.  First we had to find out what we wanted to make. Secondly we drew it on a scrap piece of paper, And then Mr Lindsay had a look at our drawing before we measured our plan. Ethan showed Reitu and I how to use a power saw, I didn’t understand how to use the saw, but it was ok because Reitu got it, and I had to stand on the wood so it didn’t move. We enjoyed it, we are making a birdhouse and I hope it works out.

Writing

This week in Te Ngahere we have been doing argument writing. It was our choice of what we wanted to write about. I chose to argue that kids should bring their phones into school. I am learning to write an argument to persuade someone to do something, give me something or allow me to do something.
I have not finished my writing but I will post it sometime soon.

Sugar

On Monday Te Ngahere were learning about sugar and our health with Whaea Gina. Whaea Gina comes once a fortnight and she stays all day to work with every class in our school.

When we were learning about sugar I was the one to put the on Mother drink, I bet that was the one with the most sugar in it. It was fun learning that with Whaea Gina.

Korowai

Last term everyone made a piece of art to show the school. Our class made a Korowai. Our teacher photo copied some paper feathers then our class used a hot or a cold color on it with crayons. With the hot or cold colors we made patterns, then at the back of the feathers we wrote a goal that did not need to be as a school goal but a life goal. Then if you had a cold color crayon you get a hot color dye, dry it, then cut it up. When you have done all of this, then stick it on the cardboard. I just enjoyed making art. My favorite part was  putting the dye on and watching it come off the crayons

Report writing

WALT: locate, evaluate, and integrate information and ideas within and across texts.

Two weeks ago my classroom Te Ngahere was learning about the bush and what endemic, native and introduced trees and birds mean.
Some trees and birds that are in New Zealand can be endemic, native or introduced.
For the whole week we made a presentation of all the information we learnt about the trees or birds that we chose.
We got the information from this DoC.
Mostly everyone's first presentation was boring but then the next ones that we did were much better than the fist and I bet the third one will be great.

I enjoyed learning fun facts that I didn’t know about
